On Thursday 2nd March, we held our second HR Academy at the eye-catching venue, Samlesbury Hall! It was another huge success (despite the lack of heating). Big thanks to our great speakers, Mike Shaw, Mags Kerns and Rory Berry for their fab presentations. It was an unforgettable day filled with networking, all kinds of HR discussions, and most importantly lots of tea & coffee to warm up…
Mike opened the day with a chat about ‘How to support Neurodiversity in the workplace’ which busted some myths regarding neurodiversity and gave ideas on how to create a neurodivergent-inclusive workplace for employees.
Mags began talking about ‘Where is the HR for HR?’ and then did a brilliant demonstration of her coaching technique with a brave volunteer. It was a quick insight into her effective one-on-one talks about what you can and can’t control in the workplace. It was great for everyone to take notes on to go away and implement into their businesses for the HR folk.
Finally, Rory spoke about ‘How to tackle the difficult conversations in a new way’ including tips on how to change your approach and the way you talk/ respond in these conversations, of course, he managed to make everyone laugh for most of it.
We finished off the day with our staple HR Clinic! A great way for the attendees to anonymously get any questions or issues they have regarding HR off their chest by writing them down on a post-it note, which was then read out to the whole room for an open discussion.
